# Discount code

This component only takes care of the front-end function of the discount code. A valid discount code must be set in the [Shopify Admin](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/discounts) before this field can be displayed. Shipping-related discount codes cannot be set before the checkout step, so make sure that your discount code is for the order price, not for shipping. The discount code cannot be applied to empty carts.
